In this symposium we aim to explore the deep-rooted continuation of the Netherlands' colonial past in our contemporary cultural and academic practices. How can we bring together the approaches of cultural institutions, makers and academic practices so that we can work towards tangible results? We aim to answer this question by facilitating an interdisciplinary conversation about the Dutch colonial past, the ways in which this history is approached, and how it shapes contemporary practices.

Do 20 nov Margriet Schavemaker, directeur van Kunstmuseum Den Haag, gaat in het Amsterdamse Stedelijk Museum naar de tentoonstelling van de iconische Nederlandse fotograaf Erwin Olaf. In een breed overzicht is niet alleen zijn vroege, activistische werk te zien waarin hij voorop liep in de strijd voor acceptatie van de lhbtiq+-community. Wo 1 okt Identiteit, migratie en feminisme: dat is de taal van de Libanees-Nederlandse kunstenaar Mounira Al Solh (1978). Directeur van het Kunstmuseum in Den Haag Margriet Schavemaker bekijkt in het Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht haar installaties, schilderijen, sculpturen en werken van textiel.
